0BITUARY – DENNIS HOWARD

Picture MAG is sad to have to report the death of its President Dennis Howard who has died, aged 80, following a road accident last week in London aboard his bicycle. Dennis Howard founded MAG in 1973 in response to the introduction of the Compulsory Helmet Law in June of that year.

Although Dennis had taken a back seat in recent years he remained in constant contact with MAG officers, frequently offering advice about campaigns and boosting morale with his sustained enthusiasm which did not diminish over the years. Dennis would invariably turn up at the Group's Annual Conference and entertain the assembly with his unique brand of anecdote-laden humour.

One of the great characters of motorcycling, Dennis was the ultimate gentleman. His limited capacity for criticism was reserved for those unsympathetic to motorcycling who concoct pointless regulations to restrict the fun and freedom of the lifestyle he championed. An author of several books on motorcycles he continued to ride his 250cc MZ until his death. He leaves a widow, Laura.

A fuller obituary with photograph, will appear on MAG's website www.mag-uk.org and be published in the October issue Streetbiker.
