AT LAST A CONSTRUCTIVE APPROACH BY A POLICE FORCE

Cumbria Police guide to car drivers on being aware of motorbikes can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/r9o7o

MAG Comment: Some good advice for car drivers The section on headlights says, “Many riders travel with their headlights on, and in a few years, doing so may well become law.”

Maybe they know something we don’t know and have advanced notice on the European Commissions consultation on Day Time Running Lights (DRL) and AHO (Automatic Headlights On) for vehicles.

As we know many riders don’t have a choice with modern motorcycles as the industry decided to “Hard Wire” motorcycles with AHO.

The section goes on to say, “Although it may, in some cases, allow you to see that there is a motorcycle on the road, it can make it harder for you to gauge the speed that it is travelling at as it breaks up the outline of the bike and rider.

Be aware also that as the motorcycle travels over the road surface the headlight can appear to flicker and this can have the same effect as the light being flashed. So if in doubt, wait until the bike has passed.”

Now if ever there was a reason not to have DRL or AHO this is it.
