BELGIUM AND MOTORCYCLE GREEN LANES

France and the UK are not the only ones who are having legislation problems for motorcycles who ride off-road. Belgium politicians have imposed a law forbidding motorcycles from riding on the trails in their forests.

Only organized rides are allowed, meaning that you need to obtain a permit in advance. There are loads of restrictions in place for organized rides.

To express their displeasure, 500 bikers went on a protest ride, ending in the garden of the Minister in charge of rural affairs, Benoît Lutgen.

The protest ride had actually been planned as a off-road ride, but since they were not allowed to do so, they decided to visit the minister himself.

Novel idea !!

I somehow doubt that the politician listened.

The number of motorcycle voters are far less than the greenies, so there's no political (=votes) weight.

And if only 500 motorcycles turn up, it does not really say much to the politician, does it ?

The organization that lobbies for motorcycles (and other vehicles) to be allowed to ride in the forests is called Codever.

You can visit their site http://www.codever.be it is in French).

Where are the motorcycle manufacturers in all this???
