Eastern Region AGM Rings the Changes

Hello Eastern Region!* From Bedfordshire to the Humber, by way of parts of Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire our region is huge and this has repeatedly been a contributory factor in the departure of many a Regional Rep.

Despite a very upbeat and successful AGM we still couldn't find a volunteer for the Rep’s post so we had to come up with a different way of managing the region. So for the time being we're going to run by way of a "Committee", comprising folk who are committed to, passionate about and active in, everything that is MAG.

The Region will be represented on the National Committee by Nev Chamberlain (or other volunteer when he is not available) and he will be the conduit for branches to communicate with the NC.

We have a Regional Treasurer, namely Nigel (Czez) Czerapara, who would be more than willing to receive donations from individual members, branches and affiliated clubs!

There’s also a Regional Webmaster and Regional Membership Secretary both of whom are one and the same person, namely Kit from NE Lincs (who has 2 cats, so does that make them Kitcats? Bad joke I know, but one that deserves a wider audience I feel!).

In addition we have a Dealer Liaison officer in the form of one Mr. Paul Facey.

His job will be mainly to disseminate information to those bike shops that are prepared to display MAG literature. New logo leaflets are in the pipeline and as soon as they are available we will commence distribution.

He will need active branches and members to get involved with this and it would be really helpful to build up a database of dealers displaying MAG literature.

You can contact all of the above via our regional email address eastern-region@mag-uk.org, or telephone Nev on 0870 774 3565 or by post c/o Mid Lincs MAG, PO Box 120, Boston, Lincolnshire, PE21 9WD.

The extremely alluring position of Political Officer has also been filled (cue round of applause for Alan Caine).

His role is to find motorcycling matters in the media that need addressing, e.g. the newspaper that headlined "bikers need more training" when a biker was killed and his pillion badly injured by a car exiting from a side road (so who needs the training?) or the Council that wants to charge for motorcycle parking or not letting us use bus lanes.

Given the size of the region it would be impossible for one person to keep abreast of all local political issues so Alan will try to keep an eye on things Lincolnshire, but contact him if you spot something that applies across the region.

If he can't help we know a man who can (David Short). If someone wants to pick up the political torch elsewhere in the region, or if any dormant branches have political officers please get in touch.

You can contact Alan on 01472 851674 or alncn@aol.com.

Fergus O'Connell takes on the role of Club Liaison Officer (a job he is doing at a national level already) and can be contacted on clubs-officer@mag-uk.org. If you want him to visit your club he usually finds the offer of a free feed and a beer very tempting (in fact food or alcohol of any description will usually suffice).

We would like to hear from people who are keen to start new branches or resurrect old ones, especially in the south of the region.

Using the membership database it is possible to ascertain how many members are in an area and the Region can help with a mail shot.

Established branches can also help with support and advice, so if you are interested don't think you will be left to struggle on your own.

You can also find out what's going on via the Regional Website, eastern-region.mag-uk.org. Email our Webmaster details of any Branch or Affiliated Club activity you would like advertising (eastern-region@mag-uk.org).

So, there you have it. The Eastern Region awaits your response!

Oh, and we really did ring the changes. Instead of the usual gavel on block, or spoon on glass, Fergus provided the AGM Chair with a small bell with which to garner people’s attention.

(* to be read in the manner of Robbie Williams or similar addressing the audience at Wembley)
