SURVEYS

As you may be aware MAG is part of the National Motorcycle Council, the body which is delivering the UKs National Motorcycle Strategy.

The survey has come from the sub group of the on Technical - Engineering and Environment which MAG also sits on.

As part of this strategy DfT working with the sub group has undertaken to obtain information concerning the:

  • positioning of motorcycle mirrors and quality of the view afforded to the rear,
  • brake system operation and the quality of brake pads/linings;
  • supply, quality, fitment, and channels of distribution for motorcycle replacement tyres.

The survey can be filled in on-line or downloaded and posted to the DfT.

Nottingham University

Run by the Accident Research Group at the psychology department, Nottingham University, the online questionnaire study is designed to examine the perception, knowledge and attitudes different groups of drivers and/or riders show towards motorcycles on Britain's roads.

The questionnaire is designed as a 'lead-in' to future work, which will hopefully use a simulator to reconstruct driver perception and decision making at junctions, where (as we all know) most SMIDSY-type accidents occur.

The questionnaire and associated literature review form part of an ongoing research commitment to the Department for Transport (DfT).

The survey is not “anti-bike', but the University are attempting to find out what some groups of car drivers really think about bikes.

Upon return of the questionnaire you will be entered into a prize draw for £250. In order to be eligible for the prize draw please make sure that you fill in your contact details at the end of this questionnaire. The closing date to return your questionnaire is December 8.

Remember like the front door bell or your phone ringing there is no compulsion to answer. There is amble room for any extra comments you may wish to impart and these survey results will we hope be beneficial for motorcycling.
