DSA Congratulates Local Biker

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) congratulates local motorbike enthusiast and owner of Beacon Rider Training, Paul Woods, as he becomes the first person in the country to join its new Register for biker trainers.

Trevor Wedge, Chief Driving Examiner said; ‘One in five road deaths involve a motorcyclist - they are the most vulnerable road users. In Nottinghamshire alone, in 2005, 118 bikers were involved in an accident, 8 were fatal.

People like Paul, who qualify to join the Register, and provide a high standard of training will make a valuable contribution to road safety.”

The DSA’s new Register of Post-Test Motorcycle Trainers (RPMT) was launched on 5 February and is part of a government initiative aimed at reducing the number of motorcycle accidents on our roads by setting national standards for motorcycle instructors.

When the Register is populated with trainers it will be launched for riders’ use next summer.

Qualified bikers will be encouraged to seek further training in order to reduce their risk of being another casualty and will be able to use the Register to find DSA approved trainers.

Paul Woods said; “I’m very excited to be the first person to join the new Register and hope that plenty will follow in my footsteps.

At Beacon Rider Training we offer a wide range of training courses to suit all requirements, experience levels and ability.

We even offer a defensive riding course for advanced riders to make the ridingexperience even more pleasurable.”

Aspiring post-test trainers and instructors can apply for a starter pack for the Register at www.transportoffice.gov.uk/GMS.
