Thieves want adverts so keep your sale classified
Police are urging the owners of quad and trail bikes to be on their guard after a spate of thefts across the force area.
Owners of the bikes who advertise them for sale have reported that they receive calls from someone who says they want to view the bike.
However they give their address to the caller but no-one turns up.
Later that day or night the property is broken in to and the bike is stolen.
Sergeant Lorett Spierenburg from the Bristol Burglary Team said: "We understand that it is often more convenient to arrange for potential buyers to come to your house to view an item you have advertised for sale.
"However for your own peace of mind and to prevent your bike being stolen, we would suggest that you meet the buyer somewhere neutral so you do not have to give your home address.
"We are investigating who is responsible for these thefts and would ask for anyone with information to come forward and speak to us on 0845 456 7000. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers, an independent charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111."
Police are also reminding residents that as the days get lighter they should turn their thoughts to their garage and shed security.
Sgt Spierenburg added: "Make sure you have adequate locks on the doors and have security marked any valuable property inside them. These parts of the home can contain expensive items but are often low on the list when prioritising home security."
