The introduction of an administration system with a central database which will be used by all 19,000 MOT Test Stations around the country is set to be implemented between spring and winter 2002. The database will hold records on the MOT status of all cars, light goods vehicles and motorcycles in the UK.
What will the system mean?
- It will provide better and more up to date information direct to the tester at the time they are testing the vehicle. There will be;
- Vehicle specific information on the vehicle being tested
- Recall information on the vehicle being tested
- Information from special notices, relating to the vehicle being tested
- Access for testers to their own test records. This will greatly assist in re-tests and re-issue of certificates.
- It will print test certificates, failures and advisories, rather than being completed manually
- It will reduce the administration burden on testers and staff in the test stations
- It will reduce theft and fraud by capturing all tests on the database. It will then be easy for members of the public and enforcement bodies to authenticate the test status of the vehicle.
What will the system mean to the Vehicle Inspectorate?
- Vehicle examiners will not have to spend hours at your testing station each year reading through records
- You will be able to access the same information about your testing station as the VE can
- VEs will be able to spend more quality time providing advice and support to Testers and Aes
What training will VEs get?
- Immediately after installing the kit, trainers will provide on-site training.
- The system will have in-built tutorial
- Only similar skills to using existing testing equipment will be required
- A telephone help desk will exist to assist users with queries
What kit will MOT Stations get?
- A PC, monitor, keyboard, printer and a smart card reader attached to the emission analyser
- A photo smart card issued to all users of the system
- Forms - which will be colour coded to allow ease of recognition
When will it happen?
- Trials at 50 test stations start in spring 2002
- Trials increased to 1000 late spring 2002
- All test stations conncted by the end of 2002
