AT LAST ANOTHER GROUP FIGHTING FOR THE REAL WORLD

A group set up by Hampstead actor Tom Conti and several Camden businessmen to champion the cause of motorists fought its first court battle on Wednesday 21st December.

The London Motorists' Action Group (LMAG), set up last month, vowed to take on unfair parking authorities and help drivers in David and Goliath style court cases.

And its first case was against bailiffs Equitas which has a dispute with LMAG director Simon Aldridge over charges.

Alex Henney, the group's chairman said: "We are dealing with this issue first. It's our first case and it is important we win."

Mr Aldridge, who runs Camden recycling company Pulp Faction, failed to pay the congestion charge four times last year and was left dealing with Equitas bailiffs hired by Transport for London.

The company is claiming costs for letters sent to Mr Aldridge and bailiff visits to his home.

But Mr Aldridge told judge Arman Jones: "I dispute having received the letters and these bailiff visits. There is no evidence in the defence's statements to disprove this allegation."

The bailiff responsible for the case has since left Equitas, which has denied the claims.

A verdict is expected at Clerkenwell County Court next month.
