Words from Jane Chisholm Vice Chair MAG UK:
Hi all,
I know that formal notices of thanks are being sent out, but can I add my own personal thanks to all those who worked so hard and gave selfless commitment helping us to sort out the devastation left by the flash floods following the Farmyard Party.
Some stayed for 14 days being on site since preparation before the event, others came and went giving a day here and there where they could, a team of volunteers came last weekend from all over the country to help, and in true Yorkshire style worked and played hard.
Can I give special thanks at this point to Phil Coldham and his wife Jackie from Road Runner Catering, who have not only supported us at the Farmyard Party for the past 20 years but also came back last weekend to work personally to provide the workforce clearing up the site with food and drinks free of charge.
I also know there was a massive network of people behind the scenes who acted as communicators and spread the word that help was needed and many others who helped co-ordinating the clear up.
Having cleared the site as best we could, climbing and scrabbling through woods, some waist high in water in the river, surrounded by stagnant waste and other unmentionable sights and smells, we are now about to take financial account of our losses. Obviously the Company will be negotiating with our insurers, but I guess it will be some time before we know exactly what the state of play is and the implications for the future.
I am particularly concerned for the personal losses to those who had stayed on the Sunday night of the rally, many of whom lost everything - bikes, helmets, leathers, tent personal belongings - the lot. It is only now when returning home that the impact will become apparent.
I am also concerned for traders still on site on Sunday who have supported us for years, who lost most of their livelihood, including Pete Foster, who provides the power and generators for the Farmyard Party, Into the Valley, The Yorkshire Pudding Rally, Stormin the Castle and others.
I hope I have mentioned all.
We have had many calls and e mails offering financial help, please direct them to the following:
MAG UK on 0870 444 8448 and asking for FYP Marshals Flood Appeal with credit card details or post cheques payable to "MAG UK Ltd" to MAG UK, PO BOX 750, Rugby, CV21 3ZR marked "FYP MFA".
Let me close with a sentiment from my friend Fergus O Connell who spent last weekend with a team of river workers waist high in water:
Thanks for sending me Trevor's account, what a moving tale, it certainly brought a lump to my throat. I wish I could have been there to help.
I have always been proud to have been part of MAG and this tale of heroism and selfless determination just underlines what I have always felt. It displays the finest spirit that this isle has always produced. Come the hour, cometh the man (and woman of course). The sort of people you would be honoured to go over the top with and have at the hun!
There are definitely two of us coming Sat morn and then Ron and possibly two more are coming Sat afternoon (he works nights) and is going to bring the tents up in his car. Will probably camp over and work Sunday,
Please pass this on to all helpers, members, bikers forums and thank those who supported us in our hour of need.
