Western Region Wanderers - out and about with their MAG Stand.
So far as putting the MAG name about this is Western’s busy (or silly) season.
We’ve the two major events, Weston Bikefest and Bristol Bike Show, coming up in August but kicked off this year’s MAG presence with a new event at Upper Rissington, near Bourton-on-theWater.
This is a small (at the moment) Classic event in its infancy but with potential to grow and grow. It was so laid back everyone was practically horizontal and a typically ‘English village green’ affair.
Some beautiful machinery (but no one had a camera with enough ‘pixels’ to suit Mutchies software) with one highlight of the day being the run in of 22 Monkey Bikes who happened to be camping down the road.
It was great to talk to these guys who have to be admired (just like the Scooterists) from travelling long distances on relatively slow machinery.
The following weekend posed a problem with two events at which a presence was a must. Mid-Wilts Group held their Pet Food Run, this time to Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital, near Salisbury.
The turn out for this was really good and apart from the donations of pet food a collection raised £290.
The people who run this Wildlife Hospital are very dedicated, preferring to live in a portacabin type abode so they can be close to the animals which need their care. Mid-Wilts finished off the day with a party in the evening at the Lysley Arms, near Chippenham, which is a great biking venue.
Also on the 9th July was a Bike Show at Blackwood in the Sirhowy Valley, just north of Newport/Cardiff area. The guys who took the MAG stand said it was a great show and definitely want to do it again next year.
Another ’must’ for the Region’s MAG stand for next year is the Calne Motorcycle and Family Day organised by the Rotary Club in aid of local charities.
This event is in its 3rd or 4th year and absolutely brilliant, whilst being quite chilled at the same time. Visiting bikers park anywhere they can in the town and no one cares.
There are stands and displays by various clubs/organisations, a Trial, Quad bikes plus a catering stall run by the local Scout Group which was precision run.
We definitely had the best place for our stand which was a) right next to an exhibition of numerous older racing bikes, whose owners, every so often, would treat us to the sound of what a real bike should sound like and b) in the shade under loads of trees.
Last year the town had approximately 3,000 bikes parked up and this year they reckon there were more.
It was a fantastic atmosphere and we’ll definitely have a presence there next year.
