Humber Bridge Demo

East Yorks MAG is doing what MAG does best!

For all of you who think there should be more demos, well hold on to your helmets, East Yorks MAG are planning a DEMO run across the Humber Bridge, the longest single span suspension bridge in the World.

The demo is in protest at the high tolls for motorcycles on the Humber Bridge. MAG believe that if motorcycles were exempt from the tolls, there would be more commuters from the south bank using motorcycles to travel to Hull, thus significantly easing congestion in Hull city centre and surrounding highways, and saving a not insignificant £527 per year for riders.

We need a high turnout for this to work and force a rethink of strategy by the Humber Bridge Board. The targeted letter campaign has so far failed to achieve the required objective.

The time has come for more direct action.

The demo is planned for Saturday 25th September, meeting at the Redbeck Café on the B1228 at Boothferry, Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire (just off J37 of the M62 – see below, X marks the spot) at 10.30am. Instructions and final directions for the demo, will be issued at the meeting point, with the demo itself scheduled to leave at 11.30am.

The intention is to travel en-masse across the Humber Bridge but to pay the toll using large denomination notes (£20 and £50 notes (apparently they are pink) would be best). Of course, emphasis should be placed on the difficulties encountered whilst dealing with money whilst suited up in bike gear.

It must be stressed however that at all times must you remain courteous, good humoured, and entirely law abiding.

The Humber Bridge Toll is £1.10 in each direction and you should be prepared to use the bridge a few times - each time paying with notes.

For a wind down afterwards East Yorkshire MAG have arranged a party; there will be a disco, firewood and camping available. Bring your own beer!!! There will be a nominal fee for camping.
