ODDS AND SODS

A firm of chartered surveyors has abandoned cars in favour of two wheels for its staff. McGregor Chartered Surveyors of Edinburgh decided to act after the cost of its cars, together with the volume of traffic in the city, got too much.

The company says it has saved at least £10.000 in running costs since replacing its four cars with a 100cc Peugeot scooter that can do 110 miles to the gallon. Managing Director John McGregor urged other businesses to follow suit: "The speed and convenience of being able to get from A to B without any hassle with parking is such a delight."

He added that the cost and time savings offered by the scooter are "just amazing" and that the company is considering buying another one.

asking if they would fill his maroon Volvo with concrete' In fact it was only after a few splashes of concrete to line the bottom of the car but the man was shocked when after one worker agreed he found that his car was literally filled with the stuff.

The worker obliged the man by pouring in fresh concrete and tiding the car up to the steering wheel.

Police are now hoping to question the man. thought simply to be a harmless concrete fetishist', but admit that no actual crime was committed...
