Local Press, photographers, Council Car Park officer Steve Webster and engineer Andrew Clare plus a number of MAG volunteers were on hand for the opening of Middlesbrough's new, secure
parking at Captain Cook's multi storey car park on Saturday 18th May. Previously, bikes were chained to the 3 hoops designed for bicycles, not the most satisfactory system for the cyclists or Middlesbrough's
bikers and scooterists.
John Hughes, local MAG Rep had previously identified a distinct lack of secure motorcycle parking in the area and had brought this to the Council's attention via the Motor Transport
Safety Forum which is part of the Local Transport Plan consultation process. Having seen that there was a problem, car park officials were advised upon a suitable area. The floor was given a bright blue non
slip coating, locking rails and motorcycle only signs were installed, the area even has the bonus of CCTV and is overlooked by the Attendants office.
MAG Rep John Hughes said 'I am delighted, having identified the situation and engaged in the process of consultation, we have been able to see this project through to completion. I hope
all local motorcyclists appreciate what has been achieved here'
