The Motorcycle Action Group have asked the company running the new M6 toll road Midland Expressway Limited to consider exempting motorcycles from the charging scheme.
The Department of Transport seem to be at odds on the one hand by including motorcycles in Transport Plans to help the reduction of congestion yet giving free reign to the toll operators to charge for
motorcycles.
Spokesman Ian Mutch said: "While we appreciate that this road has to make a profit for its owners we would welcome a pricing policy that better reflects the contribution which
motorcycles make to easing congestion. With cars paying a standard fee of £3 it seems disproportionately expensive to charge motorcycles £2."
Lobbying from MAG has lead to exemption from
charging in London, Durham, the Severn Bridge and the Dartford Crossing.
MAGs firm statement to the M6 private toll operators is that they are out of step with motorcycle strategies to reduce
congestion and lower pollution and should remove the charges in recognition of this.
