Editor’s Ramblings
Welcome to August’s Network. The astute among you will notice that there
wasn’t a July issue, but as June was so late, it was decided that the next issue should come out at the beginning of August.
Since the last issue, I’ve been to Youthbike 2003 to help with the judging. This is such a worthwhile project and has led to MAG’s National Committee
focusing on the next generation of bikers. Billy Wilson from MAG Stall will be launching a new range of Junior MAG products shortly and we are
launching in this Network a new page directed specifically at the 11-19 year old age range within MAG. We know that the name Junior MAG is directed mainly at the under-10s, and
we are looking for a new name for the teenager section of MAG. Because we are all so old, we haven’t been able to come up with a name yet, so we are holding a competition to see
who can come up with a good name. We will use the name MAG Youth in this issue, pending the competition results.
I’ve also been to Heart of England run by West Midlands MAG, where I gave the speech at the Demo, and helped to judge the bike show. This is a lovely little show and the Demo was
very well attended. The theme for this year’s Demo was Bikes in Bus Lanes in the Midlands.
The following weekend I attended a commemorative service for a member of the Renegades
MCC, and the following day I went to the East Anglia Regional AGM. I was very heartened by the turnout to the AGM, as the Region has been seriously neglected for some time.
However, we now have a newly elected Regional Rep in the form of Shan Tedder who has been caretaking the Region since April, and we also have a new Political Officer (Ian
Bucknell) and the Bury St Edmunds Rep Pete Streeton has also taken on the role of Regional Treasurer. So from not much happening to having a Regional Committee. Not bad say I!
Finally, to Magna Carta in Hertfordshire reincarnated this year by WMS Ltd. Thanks Gary and Steve for your hard work. Myself and Trevor Baird, Aine Gale, Henry Marks, Elaine
Hardy and Smeggie from Northish London and South Herts members Bill Davies and Chris Ure were running the MAG stand. A very long ride (5 miles) to the show. The sun was
shining, the music was good and the atmosphere was very laid back and relaxed to the point of being horizontal. It was good to party with my own MAG group, half of whom worked the
show and nearly all of whom turned up at some point during the weekend. I don’t know if it
will or won’t run next year, but either way the atmosphere was a fitting tribute for MAG’s 30th Birthday Party. It was certainly my favourite rally this year.
Till next time, ride safe and take care.
