Editor’s Ramblings

You may have noticed that your Network is a little  late this month. I apologise for this and can only say in my defence that my  computer contracted a virus and had to see the computer doctor for a couple  of days in order to feel better. The virus caused some of my programs such  as my CD drive and Scanner to be eaten, so it took another couple of days for  him to feel 100%.

It’s been a very busy month for me. I went to the  Brum Demo/Heart of England Rally. I helped to marshal the Brum Demo, which  was fun, and I had my collar felt my a policeman who mentioned to me that I  had no authority to stop traffic, but who completely failed to notice that I  was helmetless!

I also went to Donington Park for the British Grand Prix  weekend. The overall memories of Donington were heat, noise, the lovely  silver Yamaha R1 that MAG is raffling this year, the racing, and even more  heat. It was fabulous and I enjoyed it all. I even got to sit on MAG Sport  Rider Alan Tanton’s racing bike.

This issue of Network revisits the  issue of the DTLR leaflet on parking which was issued to Councils/Local  Authorities in May. In June we asked for Reps to contact their local  authority regarding this issue, and to let MAG Central have any replies. There hasn’t been much response so far, so we thought we’d ask you  again!

We also look at the issue of bike-theft in the light of the  withdrawal of the MCIA from the Rider Theftline Scheme. There’s a few  pointers from the Government on how to hang on to your pride and  joy.

“FOCUS ON” this month is looking at the difficulties of being a  group Rep, and is designed to give you some insight into how a group works. Everyone knows that the job isn’t easy, but there are some ideas mentioned  which might help you to understand why your group members behave in certain  ways, and also give you ideas on how to deal with it. I have written  this article following discussions with various Reps and members in the  last couple of months. These discussions convinced me of the need for such  an item. I am putting together a much bigger piece on this issue, and  this will be made available to you when I’m finished writing it.

I  have been informed by MAG Central that not very many completed Reps Forms have been sent to the office. The form was on the back page of  Julys Network. If you do not have a Rep’s Card then please fill in the form  and return it to Dawn at MAG Central.

Bye for  now!
