BIKE SAFETY TIPS AT BRANDS HATCH

Experts were on hand to give motorcycle road safety advice at the opening race of the British Superbike Championship on Sunday.

The Academy is an initiative run by the Department for Transport's (DfT) THINK! road safety campaign.

It offers motorcycle enthusiasts tips on safe riding and bike maintenance.

The Academy's stand was at Brands Hatch in Kent for the Superbikes opener.

DfT statistics showed 23 motorbike deaths on the county's roads in 2004.

Road Safety Minister, Dr Stephen Ladyman MP, said: "Motorcycling is a great way to get around, but I know from first-hand experience how vulnerable riders can be on our busy roads.

"Riders need to make themselves clearly visible to drivers and think seriously about getting extra training to brush-up on their riding skills."

Former triple Superbikes champion John Reynolds said of The Academy:

"There are some top experts involved with some great advice."
