SMC SWEDEN - ISA ON MOTORCYCLES

Four motorcyclists in Borlänge in Sweden will take part in an ISA project for two years.
The project is run by the University of Borlänge and different companies and includes cars, lorries and buses, besides the four motorcycles.
The ISA system works in the town of Borlänge and all the main roads in the county of Dalarna. The project is sponsored by the National Swedish Road
Administration. The aim is to see if the riders adjust the speed with ISA on the bike. The bikes have been equipped with ISA in April-May. The first month their riding schemes will be measured and the ISA-box are stuck under the pillions.
After this first period the ISA-box will be put in the handlebar area. The riders will test three different warning systems: vibrations, sound and light. The equipment has to be fit to motorcycles before this stage. It must be waterproof, it must handle vibrations, it must be easy to remove from the bike and the battery must cope with the ISA-box.
Meanwhile Oliver Carsen at the University of Leeds continues with UK research on ISA with the promise of viewing the adapted bike later this year.
Sweden who conducted the largest test of Intelligent Speed Adaption (ISA) on cars over the last three years have now extended the tests to include motorcycles.
SMC our equivalent in Sweden are involved in the project and will be keeping a watchful eye as the four motorcyclists in Borldnge take part in the two year assessment.
